The President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, Rubina Leal, defended the importance of preserving citizens' trust in democratic institutions, considering a strong and respected parliament essential for the future of Autonomy.

In her speech closing the solemn session for the 50th anniversary of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, Leal stressed that the Madeiran parliament represents "the democratic expression of the will of a free, responsible people confident in their future."

Leal warned of the risks of political polarization and "toxic discourse," advocating for parliaments to be privileged spaces for dialogue and democratic conflict resolution, and called for the involvement of new generations in public life.
