The iconic espadeiro Sá Carneiro will become the property of the Câmara de Lobos Municipal Council. The announcement was made to Jornal Madeira by Pedro Ferreira, son of the vessel's owners, and confirmed by Mayor Celso Bettencourt.
After a long period of uncertainty, marked by abandonment, the threat of being scrapped and a change of location, the boat, which for years marked the history of Câmara de Lobos bay, now has a happy ending. It will return to its place of origin.
The Sá Carneiro is currently in Caniçal, where it was moved in June 2024 following an intervention by the Ports Administration of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (APRAM). That work included rehabilitating the Câmara de Lobos quay and regulating the slipway.
