The Regional Director for Communities and External Cooperation, Sancho Gomes, visited Barquisimeto, Venezuela, for a meeting with representatives of the Madeiran community, business owners, and associative leaders.
The visit, taking place between October 8 and 20, aims to monitor the situation of the Portuguese community following the June 24 earthquakes and to reinforce ties with local structures. Discussions during the meeting covered the contribution of Madeiran entrepreneurs to the Venezuelan economy, the community's social and health needs, and the challenges faced by associative movements, including engaging younger generations in cultural preservation.
Business owners expressed optimism despite economic difficulties, and Sancho Gomes highlighted the importance of maintaining a close relationship with the business sector to identify cooperation opportunities. The community's healthcare support network and its needs were also addressed, as was the role of associations in supporting earthquake victims.
