The President of the Santa Cruz Municipal Chamber, Élia Ascensão, has requested a meeting with the Minister of Justice, Rita Alarcão Júdice, following statements made about the future of the former Madeira Educational Centre building in Santo António da Serra.
The "considerable-sized" property has been "unused" for several years, and its future became uncertain after the minister indicated the Regional Government does not intend to retain the building. The municipality believes that maintaining such a facility without use "does not serve the public interest," given the needs of the area and the space's potential.
Santa Cruz Municipality expresses its willingness to be part of the solution, in dialogue with the Ministry of Justice and other involved entities. They aim to jointly evaluate possibilities to "recover, enhance, and make available to the community" the public infrastructure that has been "underutilized for too long." The requested meeting seeks to present local needs, understand the Ministry's intentions, and jointly assess sustainable solutions.
