The Liberal Initiative (IL) in Madeira has criticized how the Regional Government has handled the process of defining the regional minimum wage for 2027. According to the party, the announcement of a figure of 1,050 euros by the Secretary of Economy and the executive's president occurred without prior consultation with social partners and even before the national minimum wage was set.
The party emphasizes that consultation with the Economic and Social Concertation Council of the Autonomous Region of Madeira did not take place, nor were employers' and trade unions' organizations consulted, which they argue disrespects the Labour Code. The IL maintains that wage enhancement is a significant matter that should not be decided solely by political announcement, demanding public clarification on the decision and the reason for not following the legal consultation procedure.
The IL also finds it problematic that the Regional Government cites a political understanding between PSD and CDS-PP to justify the announced value, arguing that a party agreement does not replace social concertation. The party advocates that the definition of the regional minimum wage should be part of a broader economic policy focused on increasing productivity and creating qualified, well-paid employment.
