The Regional Health Service (SESARAM) has refuted allegations of disinvestment and dismantling of its Non-Urgent Patient Transport Service. The entity states it handles an average of approximately 19,500 transports per month, reinforcing both human resources and its fleet.
In response to reports of the service's "operational collapse," SESARAM clarified its ongoing investment in fleet maintenance, including the acquisition of three new ambulances in recent years and plans for eight more. The institution also anticipates new crew hires and the implementation of a digital platform to optimize scheduling and payments.
SESARAM asserts that transport requests associated with hospital discharges are managed "as quickly as possible." The service views non-urgent patient transport as a significant social support measure for the Autonomous Region of Madeira, easing financial and logistical burdens for families.
