The Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) has launched a public tender with a base price of €1.382 million (excluding VAT) for the purchase of computed tomography equipment.
The equipment is specifically intended for lung cancer screening for the Pneumology Service and will be located in Funchal. The contract includes a 190-day execution period, with proposals accepted until October 26. The award decision will be based 60% on price and 40% on warranty period, and the investment will not use European Union funds.
This tender marks a step forward in implementing a screening program announced over several years, with mentions in 2022, 2024, and 2025. Madeira's annual incidence of lung cancer is estimated at 100 to 120 cases, with about 80% linked to smoking and many diagnosed at advanced stages, highlighting the importance of early detection.
