A severe storm with intense rain, wind gusts, hail, and exceptional electrical activity struck Zurich on the night of June 19, resulting in material damage and urban disruption.
Consequences included falling trees, blocked streets, and flooded basements and underpasses, requiring intervention from firefighters. The storm also affected Zurich Airport, suspending operations, and disrupted tram and bus traffic in the city.
Across Switzerland, the storm caused seven injuries, one critically. Over 15,000 lightning strikes were recorded nationwide, with Zurich being particularly affected after several days of intense heat.
