The leader of the PS-M, Célia Pessegueiro, criticised the Regional Government for repeatedly announcing projects for land next to the Madeira Tecnopolo over the years, none of which have been carried out.
At a press conference held this morning, she described the plots as the "promised land" and listed proposals dating back to before 2000, including an extension of the Tecnopolo and its fair and exhibition centre. She also cited a promised athletics track in 2018, a sports hall announced for Clube Desportivo Nacional in 2019, and, in 2023, the offer of the land for 250 to 300 cooperative homes.
According to Pessegueiro, the land remains unused. The PS-M says it will monitor whether the government's stated willingness to make the land available to a housing cooperative for controlled-cost homes appears in the Regional Budget.
