The Swedish Government Offices have decided to block direct access to the online versions of ChatGPT and Claude on staff work computers from 26 October. The move aims to reduce security risks linked to sharing sensitive information with artificial intelligence services not contracted by the state.
The restriction covers the Regeringskansliet, which supports the prime minister and the government, including the ministries. It is not a general ban on these tools in Sweden, applying only to government work computers over data protection concerns.
Staff are directed to Microsoft Copilot, which remains authorised after a security assessment. Some employees can still use the models through Intric, an internal platform contracted by the government that offers stronger safeguards.
