Socialist Party deputies in the Madeira Regional Legislative Assembly have submitted a vote of commendation for Cristiano Ronaldo, citing his service to the Portuguese national team and the prestige he brought to Portugal and to Madeira abroad.
The move follows the Madeira-born player's announcement that he is leaving the national team. PS parliamentary leader Paulo Cafôfo praised his career, including five Ballon d'Or awards, five Champions League titles and record international achievements, as well as national team triumphs such as the 2016 European Championship and the 2019 and 2025 Nations League wins.
The party also highlighted his influence beyond sport, saying he has inspired young people and raised the profile of the region.
