Socialists seek answers on environmental impact of Porto Santo beach works

The PS-M wants explanations from the regional government about sand recharge and dune works on Porto Santo's beach.

The PS-M has asked the regional secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture for more explanations about dredging, sand recharge and dune reconstruction work under way on Porto Santo's beach.

The party says the lack of information and the way the work is being carried out are causing concern among local residents, who question both the planning and the possible environmental effects. MP Sílvia Silva has submitted a request for clarification to the regional legislative assembly.

The PS says it supports coastal erosion prevention and the aims of the 'Life Dunas' and 'Praia Sustentável' projects, but questions the timing and the lack of consultation with islanders. It also asks whether the harbour dredging, last carried out in 2017/2018, was delayed for technical or budgetary reasons.
