Strong winds significantly disrupted operations at Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo today, leading to numerous flight cancellations and aircraft diversions.
Several flights were either cancelled, returned to their origin, or diverted to Porto Santo, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria. Passengers who managed to land reported spending up to an hour and a half circling due to weather conditions. Yesterday, wind speeds reached 80 km/h, causing considerable constraints on air operations.
The airport authority, ANA, has warned that adverse conditions are forecast to persist for the next couple of days and advises passengers to confirm their flight status with their respective airlines before travelling.
