Summer Internships Program Reaches New High with 1,001 Young Participants

The Municipal Garden of Funchal hosted the diploma ceremony for the 1,001 young people who participated in the 2026 Summer Internships Program. This initiative, promoted by the Regional Secretariat for Inclusion, Work, and Youth, saw a significant increase compared to the previous year, when 885 young people were placed.

The program's budget also grew, from 440,500 euros in 2025 to 550,625 euros in 2026. Furthermore, the monthly stipend awarded to interns was increased from 500 to 550 euros. Regional Secretary Paula Margarido emphasized the importance of this experience for young people entering the job market.

Of the 1,001 interns, 642 were male and 359 female. Placements were distributed among non-profit private entities (48%), private companies (35%), and public entities (17%). The number of participating entities also increased, nearing three hundred.
