A 50-year-old Swiss tourist died this afternoon after feeling unwell while snorkeling near Cais do Sardinha, in Ponta de São Lourenço.
An SOS was received at 4:29 PM via the Regional Civil Protection Service of Madeira. Elements of the Funchal Maritime Police Local Command, the Machico Municipal Firefighters, and the Rapid Intervention Medical Team (EMIR) were immediately mobilized.
The victim was transported to Quinta do Lorde Marina, where rescue services found him in cardiorespiratory arrest. Resuscitation maneuvers were initiated, but the man died. The causes of the incident remain unknown at this time.
