A 50-year-old Swiss national died on July 8th after allegedly feeling unwell while snorkeling near the Sardinha pier, located in Ponta de São Lourenço, Machico municipality.

The causes of the incident remain unknown, according to a statement from the National Maritime Authority. Following an alert received at 4:29 PM, elements from the Funchal Maritime Police, Machico Municipal Firefighters, and the Rapid Intervention Medical Team (EMIR) were activated.

Upon arrival at Quinta do Lorde Marina, the victim was found in cardiorespiratory arrest. Resuscitation efforts were immediately initiated but were unsuccessful in reviving the individual. The death was verified by the health delegate, and the body was transported to the Funchal Forensic Medical Office.
