On Thursday night, a police agent shot a suspected thief following an attempted knife robbery. The incident took place around 9:30 PM in the car park of the Pingo Doce supermarket in Machico, on Rua da Estaca.
The Municipal Firefighters of Machico were called to assist the victim, who sustained injuries to his lower limbs from the firearm. The assailant was transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, where he remains.
Seven officers were mobilized to attend the incident.
