The Torrestir group is studying an investment of around €30 million in a new logistics centre in Madeira, with the site planned for Câmara de Lobos. The regional Economy Secretariat announced the information after a meeting with regional secretary José Manuel Rodrigues.
According to executive director Luís Torres, the project is still at the study stage and awaits input from technical partners before it is finalised. The facility is intended to strengthen storage and distribution of food, electronics, household appliances and pharmaceuticals, including cross-docking services.
Torres said a centre on the island would reduce reliance on sea transport during disruptions and avoid costly air freight. Founded in 1962, Torrestir works in logistics and land, air and sea transport.
