Ukrainian firm Fire Point has initiated military trials for its FP-7 tactical ballistic missile, aiming for combat deployment by September 2026. This rapid development contrasts with the slower progress of several European long-range missile programs.
Fire Point CEO Iryna Terekh confirmed the missile has successfully completed ground and flight testing phases and is now in military testing, including formal coding and adoption by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Terekh suggested the first operational use is expected "in weeks, not months."
The FP-7 is a solid-fuel tactical ballistic missile with a range of up to 300 km and a payload of up to 150 kg, designed as a lower-cost alternative to the American ATACMS for precision strikes on Russian territory at short to medium ranges. Fire Point emphasizes the missile was developed in just over a year, attributing this speed to streamlined defense sector procedures during wartime.
Concurrently, the company is preparing the FP-9 missile, boasting a range of 800-850 km, with combat testing slated for autumn/winter 2026, which would bring targets like Moscow within its reach.
