The Union of Health Services Workers (STSS) has warned about a shortage of Pharmacy Technicians in the Pharmacy Services of Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, a deficiency that has persisted for about 12 months.
According to the union, this staff shortage, exacerbated by permanent departures, medical leaves, and reallocation to other areas like the Cytotoxic Preparation Unit, results in a team insufficient for current demands. The situation compromises medication management, expiry and stock control, and increases the risk of loss and waste.
The response has involved resorting to overtime, which the STSS considers a temporary and costly solution that does not resolve the structural problem. The distribution of unit-dose medications and the preparation of requisitions for inpatient and emergency services also face constraints, with an increased risk of dispensing errors.
In response, Pharmacy Technicians submitted a new declaration of disclaimer to the SESARAM Board of Directors on August 28, maintaining their commitment to patient care but refusing to individually assume the consequences of the human resource deficit.
