The University of Madeira (UMa) will host, on October 19th, one of four sessions of the national seminar '40 Years of the Basic Law of the Education System: Between Legacy and Possible Futures'. The initiative, under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, will take place at the Auditorium of the Rectory Building, at Colégio dos Jesuítas.
The Funchal session will bring together students, researchers, teachers, education professionals, school managers, and policymakers to discuss regional autonomy, European integration, and the teaching profession, addressing educational challenges in the RAM. The program includes conferences and round tables on the thematic axes 'Geographies of Possibility' and 'Recognizing Educators'. Participation is free upon prior registration.
This initiative, organized in partnership by CeiED, CIE-UMa, and CIEP, marks the 40th anniversary of the Basic Law of the Education System (LBSE), a milestone in the democratization of education in Portugal. The seminar will also visit Lisbon, Évora, and Porto in October 2026.
