A group of 11 volunteers, comprising locals and foreign residents, conducted a clean-up operation on the Vereda do Larano trail.
The initiative, led by hiking guide Paulo from Teles Mountain Guide Madeira, aimed to raise awareness about the growing accumulation of litter on the island's pedestrian paths.
Various waste items were collected, with a notable amount of toilet paper, a problem participants say is becoming increasingly common on Madeira's levadas and trails. The volunteers are calling on the Regional Government and municipal councils to launch public awareness campaigns, emphasizing that litter should be carried back by those who bring it.
