According to forecasts from the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), weather conditions in the Autonomous Region of Madeira are expected to deteriorate from Friday, 30 October. Rain until Friday is generally light, mainly in the north and in the highlands, but from Saturday, 31 October, precipitation may at times be heavy, most likely in the south and the highlands.
On the north coast of Madeira and in Porto Santo, north-northwest swells of 1.5 to 2.5 metres are forecast. On the south coast, waves should initially be under 1 metre, reaching up to 2 metres on 2 November.
Given the risks of flash floods, flooding, landslides and falling debris, the Regional Civil Protection Service urges residents to keep drainage systems clear, secure outdoor objects, avoid flooded roads and watercourses, take extra care on mountain roads, and stay away from the coastline during rough seas. The public is also encouraged to follow IPMA warnings and official updates, including via the PROCIV Madeira app.
