Youth CHEGA Madeira has highlighted the "worrying situation" for young people in the region regarding housing access, demanding clear responses about the future of 100% financing for first-time home purchases.
Renata Rocha, coordinator of the Installing Commission, pointed out that inflated real estate prices and limited affordable options leave young people with old or dilapidated properties, the renovation of which is hindered by a lack of personal capital.
The organization advocates for the long-term extension of up to 100% financing, coupled with an additional subsidized line for renovation works. Youth CHEGA Madeira believes this measure would bring vacant properties back into use and provide young people with a "real capacity to settle in the Region."
"Without housing access, there is no stability, and without stability, young people are pushed out of the Region or prevented from starting a family," warned Rocha, appealing for "clear commitments, serious planning, and political courage" to resolve the housing crisis.
