The environmental association ZERO has admitted to having only partial information regarding the quality of bathing waters in Madeira, according to its latest national assessment, updated with data up to August 30.
While the analysis identified 68 bathing areas in Portugal with recorded instances of water unfit for swimming, a complete picture of the country is not yet available. ZERO also noted a lack of complete data concerning the Azores.
Nationally, the analysis indicates a deterioration in the quality of bathing waters in mainland Portugal between May and July, with a significant increase in swimming restrictions and prohibitions, primarily due to microbiological contamination.
