The Madeira Regional Canoeing Association, supported by the Porto Moniz Municipal Council and the Madeira Association for Sport for All, is organizing the 35th Traditional Northern Canoe Regatta. This event, integrated into Sea Week, is a symbolic milestone celebrating Madeiran maritime culture and the communities' connection to the ocean.
The regatta, featuring 10 registered canoes from various municipalities on the island, will cover an approximate 8-kilometre course from Seixal Pier to Porto Moniz Pier. The initiative aims to preserve and promote traditional canoes, keeping the Region's historical and cultural heritage alive.
More than just a competition, the regatta is a tribute to the men and women of the sea and the vessels that have shaped the history of Madeira's coastal communities, fostering the transmission of this tradition to new generations.
