Carlos Moniz, a former DIÁRIO journalist who was responsible for motorsport news on the island for decades, passed away yesterday.
A rally enthusiast, Moniz began his career at Jornal da Madeira before moving to DIÁRIO, where he became a reference in the sport, known for introducing new drivers.
The Madeira Association of Motorsport and Karting (AMAK) mourned his death, recalling that the period he covered rallies was his "favourite time," just days before another Rali da Madeira was due to take place.
Carlos Moniz was 73 years old.
