The ADN Madeira party has requested the Regional Government and APRAM to publish a contingency plan that guarantees the island's supply in situations of prolonged unavailability of the Caniçal Port.
According to the party, the Caniçal Port handles approximately 95% of the products arriving in Madeira. While the planned expansion of the port may address capacity limitations, ADN Madeira believes it does not clarify the alternative in case of a multi-day port interruption.
The party recalls that in January 2022, two ships were authorized to unload priority goods in Funchal due to the inability to operate at Caniçal. ADN wants to know the daily capacity of alternatives, strategic reserves, available means, and response times, arguing that "logistics is not just economics. It is supply security."
