The ADN-Madeira party has expressed opposition to the possibility of constructing buildings of 20 or more stories in Funchal. This stance follows statements by the President of the Regional Government regarding a potential revision of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM) to address land scarcity.
The party believes that amending the PDM should not lead to urban "exaggerations and excesses" that benefit private interests. ADN-Madeira recalls the impact of the Hotel Savoy and fears Funchal might adopt a high-rise model similar to large urban centers.
The party also disputes the argument that large buildings could alleviate the housing crisis, asserting that such properties would be marketed at unaffordable prices. ADN-Madeira warns against "unbridled construction" compromising Madeira's sustainability and attractiveness.
