Russian opposition figure Boris Nadezhdin has warned that President Vladimir Putin is leading Russia towards a potential "catastrophe". "We have to tell people the truth. We have to say that the policy with which Putin governs the country leads to chaos and perhaps, God forbid, to a catastrophe," Nadezhdin stated in an interview with the France-Presse (AFP) news agency.
Nadezhdin, who intends to run for the Duma, faces legal proceedings for alleged "display of extremist symbols," risking up to 15 days of detention. Furthermore, he has been notified by authorities of a "prohibition from leaving the country," a measure he is reviewing with his lawyers. The politician, who was the sole opposition candidate to challenge Putin in the 2024 presidential election but was disqualified, was also recently added to the list of "foreign agents."
