The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, advocated for an investment of approximately 1.6 million euros in the Mako SmartRobotics system, installed at Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital. The measure aims to ensure the Regional Health Service does not fall behind the private sector in terms of technology.
Albuquerque warned of the risk of widening the gap between the public and private sectors without investment in new technologies, which could result in a "residual service" for those without means. The introduction of the robot also requires the qualification of healthcare professionals.
The official emphasized the importance of continuing these investments, recalling the positive experience with the da Vinci robotic system and arguing that public services should provide healthcare under equal circumstances as private ones.
