Madeira Health Service Sets Goals to Improve Eating Habits

The Nutrition Service of the Regional Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) has established new goals to improve eating habits on the island. The aim is to increase the consumption of vegetables, legumes, and fish by 5%, and adherence to the Mediterranean diet by 10%.

Currently, only 38.1% of the population consumes the recommended two daily portions of vegetables, 30.1% consumes the three weekly portions of legumes, and 34.3% meets the goal of three fish meals per week. Furthermore, 90.4% of Madeirans show low adherence to the Mediterranean diet.

These targets were announced during the celebration of World Food Day at the Mercado dos Lavradores. The Nutrition Service emphasized the importance of valuing local products and promoting conscious food choices while combating waste.
