Miguel Albuquerque, President of the Regional Government of Madeira, issued a direct challenge to the Santa Cruz Municipal Chamber, led by the JPP party, urging them to transform their housing investment promises into actual built homes.
Albuquerque welcomed the municipality's intention to increase housing supply but criticized the party governing the council for, in his view, systematically censoring regional housing policy without delivering their own projects. "I find it extraordinary that the party it represents spends its life criticizing the Government on housing, but when it's in the municipality, it has done nothing," he stated.
The Regional Government is preparing an additional 80 housing units for Santa Cruz, with land identification and acquisition underway. Albuquerque stressed that all municipal initiatives to boost housing supply are welcome, but highlighted the distinction between announcing and realizing, quoting Father António Vieira on the importance of completed work.
