The President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, stated that the region has secured 80 million euros to compensate for the loss of cohesion fund resources. This assurance came after a meeting with Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, focusing on the State Budget for 2027.
Albuquerque explained that current regional finance laws prevent Madeira from accessing cohesion funds due to their linkage to GDP growth. However, the Prime Minister committed to maintaining compensation through the State Budget, estimated at around 79 million euros, to offset the cost of insularity.
Furthermore, the need for swift approval of the new regime for the Madeira International Business Centre was discussed. Albuquerque expressed confidence in the State Budget vote, anticipating no issues with the PSD deputies elected from Madeira, provided agreements are honored. The acquisition of a second helicopter for firefighting was also mentioned as a resolved matter.
