The PS-Madeira reacted to statements by Nuno Maciel, Regional Secretary for Agriculture, regarding the importance of creating agricultural reserves to protect productive land.
The socialist party found it "caricature" that Maciel shows concern for threats to agricultural soils, when his government was, according to the PS, the main obstacle to establishing an agricultural reserve to protect fertile land from real estate speculation.
MP Sílvia Silva accused Nuno Maciel of "saying one thing and doing another," recalling that in 2025 the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture issued a negative opinion on the socialist proposal "Legal Regime of the Agricultural Reserve of the Autonomous Region of Madeira," despite the Regional Land Management Program considering the replacement of the transitional regime with a definitive one fundamental.
