All classified hiking trails in the region will be closed next Sunday, 8 November, following a weather warning issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
IPMA has issued an orange warning for rain and wind between Saturday and Sunday, as the Bruna depression is expected to affect the whole region. Persistent and sometimes heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusts of up to 130 km/h in mountain areas and 100 km/h on the coast are forecast.
The measure, announced by the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN), also covers the forest road between Eira do Serrado and Pico do Areeiro. For safety reasons, the IFCN urges the public to follow Civil Protection guidance, avoid risky behaviour and refrain from recreational or sporting activities in forest areas that day.
