Canadian Coastal Defence Vessels Dock in Madeira Before Returning to Canada

Two Royal Canadian Navy coastal defence vessels, HMCS Edmonton and HMCS Moncton, docked in Funchal's port for resupply before their journey home.

The Royal Canadian Navy's coastal defence vessels, HMCS Edmonton (MM703) and HMCS Moncton (MM708), docked at the north quay of Funchal harbour on October 15, 2026.

Their presence on the island marked the final stage of their European mission, part of NATO's Operation REASSURANCE, before they began their crossing back to Canada.

The ships, belonging to the Kingston class, specialize in coastal surveillance and mine countermeasures operations. They used their stop in Madeira for crew rest and resupply.
