The CDS-PP Machico has requested clarification from the Municipal Council concerning the successive closures of Areia Beach in Banda d’Além. These closures were prompted by water quality analysis results showing Escherichia coli concentrations exceeding legal limits.
The latest analysis, conducted on August 10th, detected 4502 NMP/100 ml of Escherichia coli, leading to a new closure. The party deems temporary closures insufficient and demands the urgent identification of the contamination's source and causes.
CDS-PP Machico is inquiring about the council's actions, ongoing corrective measures, public health risks, and the conditions required for the beach's safe reopening. They argue that the response should focus on the problem's origin, not just its consequences.
