Madeira's Forestry Brigades are reinforcing their fire prevention and fuel management actions across several areas of the island throughout August. Interventions are particularly concentrated in Paul da Serra and the mountain ranges of Funchal.
In Paul da Serra, teams are clearing roadsides to create vegetation discontinuities and buffer zones, aiming to reduce the spread of potential rural fires. In Funchal's mountains, structural interventions are underway in forest areas, including pruning, cleaning, removal of dry vegetation, and control of invasive species, contributing to both fire prevention and ecosystem conservation.
So far this year, the Forestry Brigades have intervened in approximately 45 hectares, in addition to carrying out surveillance, path clearing, and operational training. The Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment, and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, visited the work sites.
