The Regional Civil Protection Service of Madeira (IP-RAM) has issued a warning about the increased risk of forest fires in the region. According to forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), maximum temperatures are expected to remain high in the coming days.
On Thursday, August 13th, an increase in wind is predicted, particularly in the eastern and western areas and the highlands of Madeira. In these zones, air humidity will remain low, temporarily increasing the risk of rural fire spread. From Friday, August 14th, a gradual decrease in wind and fire risk is expected.
Civil Protection recommends adopting preventive and precautionary measures, observing current legislation and imposed restrictions. It is advised to avoid using equipment that could generate sparks in rural areas, not to camp in forest areas, and to pay attention to meteorological information and official guidance. Bonfires and burning are prohibited between April 1st and October 31st.
