The Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection, Micaela Fonseca de Freitas, visited the National Republican Guard (GNR) post in Caniçal. The visit allowed for an understanding of the facilities, the team, and their operational dynamics, with participation from regional Civil Protection and GNR officials.
Coordination between different forces for incident prevention and response was discussed, particularly concerning the GNR's Emergency, Protection, and Rescue Unit (UEPS). The unit provides teams for initial response to rural fires and for mountain patrols and rescues, assisting in cases of lost hikers.
Micaela Fonseca de Freitas highlighted cooperation with the GNR, emphasizing prevention and anticipation as priorities. "This stronger presence on the ground and the collaborative work among various forces allow us to act before problems arise," stated the official.
