Litter visible on the roadside in the upper part of Boa Morte, Ribeira Brava, is the result of a cleanup operation removing waste illegally dumped in the municipality's mountains, waterways, and natural areas.
The City Council explained that the debris is part of an ongoing cleaning effort and will be removed later. The operation, which began on Tuesday, involves ARM and is monitored by the GNR.
During the work, mattresses, household appliances, construction waste, and other illegally abandoned materials are being collected. The waste is temporarily placed roadside to facilitate its subsequent collection and proper disposal.
Vice-president Hélder Gomes condemned the dumping, stating, "We cannot accept that our mountains and waterways are being turned into dumping grounds." The operation will continue in the coming days across different areas of the municipality.
