Nova Direita Madeira announced it has filed a criminal complaint with authorities, requesting an investigation into alleged illegal wastewater discharges in the Gavinas Beach area of Funchal.
The complaint names the Funchal City Council, Frente MarFunchal, Águas e Resíduos da Madeira (ARM), and hotel units located on the hillside opposite the beach, suggesting their responsibility should be investigated.
The regional party claims an "illegal discharge of wastewater has been occurring for over a decade," flowing down the hill and into Gavinas Beach, potentially affecting coastal areas and compromising the possibility of obtaining a Blue Flag for Funchal's urban beaches.
