CDS-PP Madeira MEP Sara Madalena received a delegation from the Venezuelan-Portuguese community, led by Dr. Manuel Ferreira, a former political prisoner.
The meeting aimed to alert regional political authorities to the severity of the humanitarian crisis and ongoing human rights violations in Venezuela. Ana Cristina Monteiro, president of VENECOM — Association of the Venezuelan Community in Madeira, and other representatives were present.
Manuel Ferreira shared details of the repression against dissenting voices and the inhumane conditions of political prisoners. The delegation thanked CDS-PP Madeira for their support to earthquake victims in Venezuela and urged Madeiran institutions to adopt a firmer stance on the situation.
The appeal was reinforced for the Madeiran parliament and regional government to keep the Venezuelan issue high on the political agenda as a priority humanitarian cause, and to strengthen social support and integration processes for those seeking refuge in Madeira.
