CDS Raises Doubts Over Ten-Story Building Limit in Madeira

The CDS acknowledges the importance of the petition against high-rise construction in Madeira, signed by 1,740 people, but expresses doubts about the proposal to limit buildings to a maximum of ten stories.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, MP Sara Madalena valued citizen participation and reaffirmed the defense of the region's urban and landscape preservation. However, she questioned the criteria supporting the proposed limit, asking why ten floors should be permitted and not nine or eleven.

Madalena argued that building quality should not be judged solely by height but by architectural quality, spatial planning, and landscape integration, criticizing a uniform limit without technical justification. The party will continue to defend the preservation of Madeira's urban, rural, and landscape characteristics.
