The Popular Youth of Madeira (JP Madeira) believes that economic and labor indicators for the first half of 2026 confirm a positive trajectory for the regional economy. The organization points to the reduction in the unemployment rate to 3.5%, a historic low for the region and the lowest in the country.
According to JP Madeira, the increase in employment and a positive net balance in company creation demonstrate the regional economy's capacity to generate activity, attract investment, and create new job opportunities. The party structure emphasizes that these results should be accompanied by a progressive increase in income, with wages growing above inflation.
Vasco Marcial, vice-president of JP Madeira, states that the historic employment levels are significant, but the next step is to ensure this economic dynamic translates into higher wages and improved purchasing power. The organization advocates for the Regional Government to continue social dialogue, involving social partners in defining solutions to raise wages without compromising competitiveness and job sustainability.
