The CDU (PCP) has denounced an alleged attack by the Republic's Government on the right to housing in Funchal, labelling the new rental law as an "eviction package". PCP official Ricardo Lume warned that the proposed changes could lead to situations similar to those in Spain, where long-term tenants may be evicted at the owner's will.
The PCP claims the legislation aims to make rental contracts more unstable for tenants, facilitating their departure from homes. The political party disputes the notion that facilitating evictions will increase housing supply, arguing that housing should not be treated as a commodity. The PCP calls for the "repeal of the eviction package" and the implementation of policies that value the constitutional right to housing.
