CHEGA accuses Luís Montenegro's Government of "shamelessness" regarding Territorial Continuity Model

CHEGA deputy Francisco Gomes has accused the Government of Luís Montenegro of "shamelessness" for failing to ensure the full implementation of the new Territorial Continuity Model (MCT).

Gomes deemed it unacceptable that, months after its approval and publication into law, the changes foreseen in the MCT are not yet producing all their effects. The new model aims to integrate travel agencies, allowing residents to pay only their fixed share instead of the full ticket price upfront and waiting for reimbursement.

The deputy also criticized the regional government of Miguel Albuquerque, alleging a lack of interest in changing a system that forces residents to advance ticket costs. Gomes suggested that Albuquerque is politically conditioned by interests linked to the hotel and tourism sectors, which would explain the regional executive's lack of a firmer stance.

Furthermore, Francisco Gomes directed criticism at some sectors of the Madeiran media, accusing them of disseminating incorrect interpretations of the new MCT and reproducing the government's position without properly explaining the law. The parliamentarian assured he will continue to pressure the Republic's government for the model's full operationalization, reaffirming that territorial continuity is a right for island residents.
