The PSD's proposal to establish an Emergency and Civil Protection Merit Medal in the Autonomous Region of Madeira has been receiving widespread support from political parties represented in the Legislative Assembly.
Following initial endorsements from PSD, CH, and PS, other parliamentary groups have also expressed their agreement. Gonçalo Maia Camelo (IL) deemed the diploma uncontroversial, noting that a similar system already exists on the mainland and, in essence, within Madeira itself through the autonomous good service medal. However, he stressed that the primary focus should be on ensuring optimal operational conditions for Civil Protection.
Lina Pereira (JPP) stated that her party supports any initiative that values frontline professionals, emphasizing that it should be part of a consistent practice. The JPP suggested that the PSD, in citing Santa Cruz as an example, should also consider the municipality's measures concerning firefighters. The party also pointed out that the legislative proposal closely resembles the national regime for the protection and relief medal and advocated for increased involvement of municipalities and firefighters themselves in the medal's attribution.
