The Legislative Assembly of Madeira debated a motion of solidarity for the population of Porto Santo, introduced by Gonçalo Leite Velho (PS), due to the suspension of maritime links operated by the 'Lobo Marinho' ferry. Leite Velho advocated for a "true maritime highway" between the islands.
Other deputies raised concerns about the management of breakdowns and the need for long-term solutions. Carlos Silva (JPP) emphasized that the issue is not the breakdown itself but the response to it, while Manuela Gonçalves (CH) criticized the Regional Government's inaction, deeming the situation a threat to "territorial cohesion."
Lawmakers from various parties, including JPP, CH, PSD, CDS, and IL, expressed solidarity with Porto Santo residents, though some questioned the practical effectiveness of the motion and others recalled mitigation measures like increased air travel.
